“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” This quote remains a testimony to thirty (30) farmers from Arusha who had an opportunity to get training and an exposure visit to Njombe to learn from other farmers. They spent a total of five-day, one day in class and the rest of the days for practical farming methods. The group consisted of different farmers from Arusha who are doing avocado farming and specifically from the new avocado cluster that was launched recently. The first day of training of indoor training was about the theory of the best practice in avocado which was done by an Out Grower manager from AFRICADO. The best part came during the exposure visit whereby they hard an exposure visit to Njombe where they visited and learn from the leading farmers in avocado farming from the southern part of Tanzania. While in Njombe the group members received comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge on the best practices in avocados and also the farming dynamics that are used in Njombe. During the visit, TAHA was able to solve different production and marketing challenges that were facing the farmers in order to improve their productivity and their income at large. Lastly, the training was given to the group to make sure that the produced avocados meet the demand and the quality that is needed in the regional and international markets. After the theory and practical training, it was expected among things among other things to build a pool of avocado experts around the region who will be helping other farmers from the places they come from. Also, through this training, it was expected to improve the extension services as the participants were capacitated with the best practices in avocados. During this exposure visit the farmer's group were able to visit avocado farmers and avocado associations where they received knowledge on how they can form an avocado association in the Northern zone and implement all good that has been done in the southern zone. At the end of the training, farmers were given certificates after successful completion of training both practical and theory. One hour per day of study will put you at the top of your field within three years. Within five years you’ll be a national authority. In seven years, you can be one of the best people in the world at what you do. There is no doubt that the knowledge acquired during this training will improve the knowledge of not only the farmers but also the entire avocado association in the Northern zone.
